BOY OF THE WEEK

This week’s East Village Boys of the Week are Luis and Joan, from Barcelona, Spain
Photographed for EVB by Ignacio Lozano

I met with my two friends Luis and Joan, spending hours laying in bed, smoking, talking about movies, boys, sex, and sharing ideas about this shoot. They are better artists than I am, and their artistic spirit and our conversation started growing on me. I began to remember some of my favorite movies like Carne Trémula by Pedro Almodóvar, The Dreamers by Bernardo Bertolucci, Ken Park and Kids by Larry Clark, and always in mind, the incredible Gus Van Sant. I dont have a story to share, I just want to show my feelings about our day. - Ignacio Lozano

BOY OF THE WEEK

This week’s East Village Boy of the Week is Florian, from Paris
Photographed by Florent Routoulp, aka Chocolat_Poire, entitled Pull Marine

Isabelle Adjani and Serge Gainsbourg - Pull Marine

The shoot began as a project about “blue”. I wanted to create a story about blue as a feeling, and was inspired by the song by Isabelle Adjani and Serge Gainsbourg entitled “Pull Marine”, about suicide, love, swimming pools, and of course the color blue. I wanted a very intimate feeling so I’ve used the pixels from the computer screen in the photos. In the end, I produced a book with the photos and the lyrics of the song. - Florent Routoulp

BOY OF THE WEEK

This week’s East Village Boy of the Week is Guido, from Buenos Aires, Argentina
Photographed for EVB by Ivan & Gabo

We like to shoot different types of people for our portraits - drag queens, trannies, young and cute boys, bears, daddies, girls, partiers… Our shoots are always a time for fun between the model in front of the lens, and for us behind it. We see and freeze the modern world, playing like a child with a camera in his hands. We are not concerned about the technique, the camera or the pose. The idea is to have fun at all times. For this shoot we worked with Guido - a young guy with a lot of power and a punk attitude, but also very funny and natural, which we tried to capture in these shots. - Ivan & Gabo

BOY OF THE WEEK

This week’s East Village Boy of the Week is Johan, from Antwerp, Belgium
Photographs and artwork for EVB by Yves de Brabander
White historic corset by Cédric Jacquemym
Corsets and satin dress by Toon Geboers

A mix of strangely linked influences made me do this shoot with Johan. For several days in a row I couldn’t get rid of the song “Llorando” performed by a Portuguese singer in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive. Every time I played the song, a mysterious and dark emotional image of a boy dressing up in designer corsets appeared. The year was 1945 and he lost his mother during the war… or something… shivers… anyhow… I met Johan at his vintage-decorated flat, Almodóvar soundtrack playing and his classic movie posters in the hallway, Mango’s Penelope Cruz billboards against the wall - I immediately knew I only had to follow my emotions and that’s what happened. - Yves de Brabander

BOY OF THE WEEK

This week’s East Village Boy of the Week is Scott, from New York
Photographed for EVB by J. Yatrofsky

When I met Scott I fell in love instantly. We spent months vollying text messages back and forth until we finally met up for the shoot. Most of the shoot consisted of laughter and digging through his underwear collection. Getting to know someone is a very important part of the photographing process for me. Underwear is equally as important. I took countless Polaroid’s of him, and many rolls of film! Scott is quit possibly the cutest boy I know. -J. Yatrofsky

You can see more images of him at Jessica’s other site, iheartboy.

BOY OF THE WEEK

This week’s East Village Boy of the Week is David, from Brooklyn
Photographed for EVB by Greg Reynolds

These photographs of David Levy were taken in his home and on his block in BedStuy, Brooklyn. I am primarily a portrait photographer with a cinematic sensibility, influenced by such films as Jean Vigo’s L’Atalante and Jean Cocteau’s La Belle et la Bête. I approach each shoot as the writer and director: creating the narrative, composing the frame, shaping the light, choosing the background and engaging the subject so that I might bring emotional life to the image. - Greg Reynolds
